Story
It was during Covid and it was at the nicest Rite Aid in San Leandro. I was working as a liquor sales rep putting bottles away on the shelves. Jeff then walked in, tall, dark, & handsome. I spotted him right away. We started talking instantly. He started helping me put bottle after bottle onto the shelves. He stayed the entire time until I was done with the account. I later found out that it wasn't even his account, nor was it his job to put away the bottles. He just stayed to get to know me. He followed me outside, but didn't ask for my number. Disappointed and overwhelmed with butterflies, I had to see him again. I worked up the courage and said, “If you are ever in Livermore let me know. Here is my number.” He hesitated and put it in his phone, and we went our separate ways. 6 months went by without ever hearing from him. I thought about him often, even checked to see if he had an Instagram but never acted on it.
One day I got a call from a random number. I answered...he said “Hi, do you know who this is?” I recognized the voice instantly. I responded “Yes...what took you so long?”
I'll let Jeff tell you why it took so long...
Jeff's side of the story...
It was a rough day in the beautiful streets of San Leandro, and I am wondering how I ended up in this Rite Aid. Sitting there in my truck pondering life, I thought to myself, "God, please just give me my wife. Give me a drop dead, gorgeous sales rep and give her to me now. Please.” I walked into the Rite Aid, turned the corner and there she was…tall with a beautiful build. My heart started racing and I thought “Wow God, that was fast!” What if she has an ugly face? We were wearing masks at the time, so I walked past her making sure I could see her eyes, and BOOM…sparks flew. As she told, I stuck around for about an hour lifting case after case of liquor bottles till I saw her leaving. We had talked the entire time. I followed her out to the parking lot just wishing this wouldn’t be the last time I see her. I wanted to ask for her number, but I was still working through my previous relationship and didn’t think it was the right thing to do. It should have never taken 6 months to call her, but everything happens for a reason and it was well worth the wait. I searched through my phone staring at the name that I thought would be hers. I took a deep breathe and called her. She answered. I asked if she knew who it was and she said, “Ya, what took you so long?” I knew instantly we would be together.
We ended up getting together that night and the rest is history. 🥰
Tidbits
How did you first meet?
See Our Story!
What was your most memorable date?
The proposal on the beach in Cabo! It was a very memorable event for us that was full of emotions.
How did the proposal go?
Let me first start off by saying I had no idea that he was proposing in Cabo! Apparently a lot of people knew. Jeff had gone out of his way before and asked my dad, Gerry my step dad, and my mom for their blessing.
We were going to Cabo for my birthday, and I didn't even think we were going to make it there with how our trip started out. (From the pictures you would have never known)
We ended up missing our flight. We missed the cut off time by 10 minutes to check in! The next flight to Cabo was not until 8:30pm that night. We went back home already exhausted from waking up at 4:30am. Headed back to the airport at 5:30pm, had a 2 hour layover in Houston, Texas(where Jeff thought it was funny to get me t-shirt souvenir saying "Houston I Am The Problem" and his t-shirt (Don't Mess With Texas)
Arrived in Cabo at 8:30am. We get to the hotel to check in and thankfully they were able to check us in. We get into the hotel room and just want to lay down since we are running on 2 days of no sleep. We walk in and the room had 2 double beds and construction work going on SO loud right next to the room so much that our room was vibrating from the jack hammering. We go back down to switch rooms, they gave us access to go check that room out and there was a couple still in there! We head back down to the front desk, then they take us there the couple is gone, and we like the room. They said to give them a few hours to clean it. We go to lunch and explore the property and go back to the new room and the room is still dirty!! We head back down to the front desk where they manage to tell us it won't be ready for another 2 hours! Mind you it is 3:30pm at this point, it is my birthday, and our luggage is stuck in the old room! I just lost it and started crying at the front desk. They changed managers during that time so the new manager didn't realize what went on earlier. An hour goes by and it's finally ready. At this point I am so exhausted I just want to lay down, I had a red birthday dress I was going to wear, I didn't want to get ready and didn't care that it was my birthday. I had my sister texting me telling me to just suck it up, you're on vacation. I honestly do not know how Jeff kept it together this whole time! He was just saying it's okay. "Just get ready, lets just take a walk on the beach before the sun sets" I am just not having it.. Finally I just got myself together, threw on my jumpsuit at 6:50pm we walked out the door and I was like "Let me grab our poloroid camera to get a picture." We walk down on the beach and I end up asking this girl sitting there if she could take our photo. She replied "Yes of course! Do you mind if I actually take your guys' photo with my camera too? I am an aspiring photographer, and will send you the photos" I said sure! So she goes on by telling us what to do, "spin her around" now Alexa take 5 steps to the beach and turn around, then again okay take 10 steps to the beach and turn around, give Jeff a kissy face." I turned around, and he was on one knee and trembled "Will you marry me?" Of course Jeff was balling his eyes out the entire time :)
I was so shocked! I could not stop saying "OH MY GOSH" and of course "YES, YES, YES!" It was literally the most unforgettable trip.
On our way back to our hotel room we stopped, hugged and both started crying together.
When we got back Jeff had wrote a beautiful heartfelt card that was so touching. I facetimed my sister and mom right away. Come to find out they were in on this whole thing! He had been texting them, along with his family the whole time. I still till this day, cannot believe he pulled this off after the nightmare it took to get to Cabo! What an unforgettable, amazing story!
